美정부, 앤트로픽 AI ‘미토스’ 해외 접속 금지 조치

미국 정부가 해외에서 ‘미토스’ 등 앤트로픽의 최상위 인공지능(AI) 모델에 접속하는 것을 전면 금지했다.
12일(현지 시각) 앤트로픽은 “미국 정부는 국가 안보 당국의 지침에 따라 모든 외국 국적자의 ‘페이블5’와 ‘미토스5’ 접근을 막는 수출 통제 지침을 발표했다”고 밝혔다.
이번 조치는 해외에서도 미토스에 접속하지 못하도록 한다. 미국 내에 머물고 있는 외국 국적자도 모델에 접속할 수 없도록 한다. 이에 앤트로픽에 소속된 외국인 직원들조차 미토스를 활용하지 못하게 됐다.
앤트로픽은 “해당 규정을 준수하기 위해 모든 고객에게 제공하던 페이블5와 미토스5 서비스를 즉시 중단했다”고 했다.
앤트로픽은 이날 오후 5시 21분(현지 시각)에 정부로부터 이 같은 지침을 받았다고 밝혔다. 다만 해당 서한에 국가 안보 우려 사항에 대한 구체적인 내용은 명시돼 있지 않았다고 설명했다.
다만 앤트로픽은 “정부가 자사의 해킹, 생화학 무기 생성 방지용 안전장치를 우회할 이른바 ‘탈옥’(jailbreaking) 방법이 있다고 보고 있는 것 같다”며 “이는 오해로 인한 문제로 판단된다”고 말했다.
앤트로픽은 정부가 확인한 것으로 파악된 탈옥 방법은 오픈AI의 GPT-5.5를 비롯한 다른 모델들에서도 널리 활용되고 있다고 했다.
그러면서 “정부가 투명하고 공정하며 기술적 사실에 근거한 법적 절차를 통해 안전하지 않은 AI 배포를 차단할 권한을 가져야 한다고 본다”면서도 “이번 조치는 그러한 원칙에 부합하지 않는다”고 지적했다.
